>>497292>I've never NEEDED a hatchet while camping.A lot of things aren't "needed" for camping...a bic lighter, water filter, sleeping pad, flashlight, tasty food, etc...They just make things a lot easier. That's what an axe/hatchet does.
>wind up chopping for 2 hours to get a tiny bit of wood. This is why an axe should always be accompanied by a full size bow saw. I've never spent more than 15-20 mins splitting a night supply of wood.
>makes people do stupid shit>dick waving contestSpeak for yourself, anon.
>bigger and more consuming fire That's not the idea at all... It's to gather firewood efficiently so there is less time roaming all over the woods picking up sticks, and more time actually enjoying the outdoors. More BTUs of firewood with less time and calories spent. All it takes is finding a single downed tree ~6" diameter... drag to camp, saw logs, split logs, stack logs. Full night + morning of firewood in 30-45 minutes.
>destructive to your localities? Man it is like you have never been /out/ before...There's nothing destructive about using downed trees for firewood. No one is felling live trees for firewood unless they're retarded.
