Bread and corn will literally catch the biggest channel catfish and common carp/suckers/mirror carp. I don't really fool around with sinkbait or storebought stuff. chicken liver works good but only if you open it and let some flies get on it. Then close it back up and leave it the sun for two or three days until it gets sandy. worms will either get pecked off the hook by bluegill, or you'll catch a drum or something. sometimes on worms you can catch bass and carp. Worms are a very utilitarian bait for when you aren't targeting anything in particular
