I group them by metals, non-metals and exotics (eg pearlescent, iridescence, multi-surface)
Then i subdivide them by roughness, transparency and colour
The magic of this autistic hobby is that I will always be appreciative and excited to see otherwise banal new things, from a new nut from a tree to a different kind of rock. I got very excited when I found a perfect beeswax sphere candle in a homeware shop lol. It is an infinite hobby - I could dedicate my life to collecting and barely scratch the surface of available combinations of physical properties nature has to offer, let alone the manmade decoration (anisotropic finishes, anthropological decoration such as corded ware, woven fibres, velvet, flesh etc)
I’ll use the collection to teach my kids all sorts of lessons about nature and physics one day
