>>2345719>Learn about avalanche saftey Really need to take an AIARE 1 course. You can go out in low hazards conditions in inconsequential terrain without AIARE 1 and be fine, but you need knowledge about avalanches and what kind of terrain choices to make to find these areas and conditions. This knowledge you learn in AIARE 1. Catch 22. Get the app “Avalanche” and look at local avalanche reports to kind of get the gist of what this means. DO NOT look at this app, see your zone is green, and assume it’s full send time. Seriously, take a class or find a mentor.
>Get gearBasic gear includes skis, skins, touring bindings, touring boots, beacon, shovel, and probe. Highly recommend dedicated backcountry skiing backpacking (has pocket dedicated to fast access of avy rescue equipment and built in straps/carriers for attaching skis/helmets) and light breathable outdoor clothing. Expensive hurdle, consider renting to see if you like the sport first
>get a partner and sendYou need a partner to preform avalanche rescue. Find a friend or a group. Our groups send policy is resort on risky days, backcountry on low danger days.
