I wouldn't be brave enough to ask him to teach me but I could see myself setting up on the pier and hopefully running into him one day. what's a good versatile rod setup for a beginner in southern CA? I don't know of any innawoods streams or ponds down here so any fishing I did would probably be at the pier, the jetty, lagoons near the beach. '
