>how long is the hike>how much of a load will you be carryingbut regardless i probably wouldn't wear the new shoes, because then you're stuck with shoes that don't fit right. plus your feet will swell while hiking and probably make up the difference for removing the insole and they'll hurt again, and removing the insole does nothing for width or length of the shoe.

that being said, i normally wear trailrunners that dry quickly for hiking and backpacking.
