I have a theory that with covid getting way more people into gardening it's radically increased the number of squash beetles, cucumber beetles and other similar pests. All those semi gardeners who just throw zucchini and butternuts then don't maintain them are basically creating squash bug colonies that then have to spread out.
Anyways don't give up if you like growing them that much. Row cover is pretty cheap and really does wonders. This patty pan has some mildew but no squash bug and still gives abundant fruit. The ones I didn't do that with were toast weeks ago.
