>>1149053Well I know that in South East Asia there are all sorts of caves full of skeletons, way fucking deep too. Clearly there was some sort of burial ritual in play, but the age can be absolutely insane, we are talking over 10,000 years easy. These ultra deep caves are practically free of bacteria in places, that's why they want you to decontaminate your gear when going caving. It's a real gold mine for anthropology, but the danger factor combined with contamination and difficulty of conducting a proper dig in a crack, not alot is done. Homo floresiensis is probably the most famous find, that little bugger was just laying there, it was only the fame of being the size of a Hobbit that got the rest of the cave excavated.
I mean the Maya are far more famous for cave skellys, they threw stuff into those giant sink hole lake caves, including people. It's creepy, because the water level was much lower where all the walk ways and offerings are. It's thought that during a major drought, they really started chucking people in. But the effect is like a shelves under water packed full of bones.
