>>421519>why do I have a damper on the top of my stove and vents in the doors? The vents in the door allow you to control the amount of oxygen being taken into the stove and damper controls the amount of heat going out the chimney.
Find the right combination of the two is somewhat of an art, as it depends on all kinda variables, such as what kinda wood is being burned, what stage the fire is at; just started fire needs more oxygen while one that happily burning needs to be slowed down a bit, etc.
And don't forget when getting a fire going, (both with a stove and especially a fireplace) to aim your propane torch up the chimney pipe for a min. or two to get a steady column of heat flowing up and out before you actually light the wood on fire, otherwise you might end up with smoke billowing into the room, as cold dense air in the chimney could come flowing backward into the stove.
