>>1837422Well I've been doing /out/ stuff since I was 7, (thanks to the Baden-Powell boys) best distance hike I've managed was about 30 km in a day with about 20/25kg of kit. I've done plenty of winter camping, been up the Beacons thrice (twice of which was in Winter). I was planning on just going around Loch Lomond for a week - some anon told me its shit, but ,nevertheless, its about as far into Scotland as I can go by coach, though I hope to go to Ben Nevis and Fort William sometime. Still, I thought that a weeks outing will be the longest outing I have so far had, and its best to play it safe with the valleys around Loch Lomond, then to start up Ben Nevis and embarrass myself.
For gear, I was hoping to grab some fresh food in Glasgow and live off that for the first 2 days, after that it'll be pasta, salami, oats, tea and dehydrated tomato sauce. Got a 3L camelback, but I was also going to take a 1L water bottle and make sure I have a sawyer water filter to make sure I don't run out of water; and tea of course (packed 40 tea bags for just that week lol). Got a hexistove for cooking if I can't be bothered to walk out of the forest to start a fire. (which also makes me ask, how strict are the rangers on that law?) I was just going to rely on a map and compass for nav. My sleeping bags a season 3 which has me a tad nervous for Scotland - I've used it through winters before but the Souf is a bit warmer than Scotland. I can always grab a tent of a mate if need be but I was just planning to use sleeping bag, rollmat and a basha for sleeping gear. I reckon I can do it, but my mates coming with me whos never done any of this (although we are going camping every other weekend, with a 10k hike to train him up).
