>>1692020Ok I get what your on about. The reason ultralight is such common phrase is due to social media, something that the cottage companies used heavily to advertise themselves. The majority of the first cottage companies making niche UL gear were american, and their largest market were people looking to hike the triple crown trails as long distance hiking on maintained trails is the outdoor activity with the largest market suitable for UL gear. So it makes sense that the vast majority of what people see when it comes to UL is about people hiking the big three during peak hiking season. But again this is because the majority of people are out during peak season. There are people using base weights <10lb in wild conditions, but the fact is they are a minority.
>propegators of "ultralight" talking about "ultralight" there are, to put it simply, two groups who might be considered "propegators of "ultralight"" those who have been quietly chatting away on specialist websites for years, making diy kit out of strange materials, pushing the boundries and questioning the status quo of the moment; and those who use the term ultralight to sell stuff, using it in a similar way to the term "tactical".
