Like I said, a conventional down jacket is fine in a winter urban environment, where you’re just going from your house to the car to the pub but if you’re hiking inna woods in a down jacket without a GoreTex shell and it starts raining, (or wet snow) it will soak thru the down and you’ll freeze your ass off.
Spending money on a down jacket/coat for outdoor use without also getting a waterPROOF shell, is simply stupid.
I don’t know why you’re having such a hard understanding this concept?
