I have thought the same thing, and the fucked up truth is that either nobody with money gives a shit or the land is marked to be logged and flattened, and the logs are worth more than the archaeological value. Natives and villagers probably stripped anything not attached to the floor a long time ago, so you'd most likely be exploring empty ruins (still cool) rather than finding an ayylien crystal skull.
I feel like the best way to do it for real would be to assemble a team of people, make them all sound as credible as possible, then pitch the idea to Amazon as a TV show or get an internet celebrity to sponsor you.
You could probably get decent funding from a well-organised GoFundMe if you capitalise on the idea that they will likely be looted and destroyed now that people know where they are, and that they'll be bulldozed to log the surrounding forest.
I think you could probably say some shit like "we'll save the forest and the history of this amazing place if we can just get there and document it!"
