It's truly so nice to see you all! middle of PA here. Here's a bout 100 tomato seeds started up last night. I soaked them in peroxide for 15 min. rinsed and soaked in a this recipe that's been passed down in my heirloom seed group for generations. "Tea needs to be orange pekoe tea, herbal teas do not appear to be effective..
Make a cup of tea
Let the bag steep for 4 min.
Transfer the bag to a second cup of hot water
Let this steep for another 4 min.
Add the second cup to cold water to make 1 qt.
Moisten a paper towel or coffee filter
Add seeds to the paper towel or coffee filter
Let the seeds spend the night in the refrigerator.
Plant the seeds the next day or two
( This is a hand-me-down method)
The last few years I've been using coir to start my seeds. So much easier than baking or sterilizing my dirt. I've been doing this alone for 10 years,(my fellow seed starters are spread over the US)--it's just so nice to see all my interests here :^) Also, I put a little thermometer in my tray, so I know how high to go with my heating pad.
