I can't believe some of the crap you people claim to carry every day, not counting the obvious joke items. For your average day to day 5-10 mile commute to an office job, why even bother with a flashlight, pen, etc? Your phone can perform all those functions and if you commute by car (my covered parking space is <20m from my desk) you'd be better served by leaving it all there, or alternatively keeping it in your desk drawer.
Naturally I add a few odds and ends if I'm doing something out of the ordinary, but screw lugging a bunch of shit you rarely use around. I don't carry a bag every day either because I'm not a college freshman.
