If all humans decided they wanted to have one kid, eat less meat, buy less random shit, take a bike/public transit to work, the world's ecology would be fine. But the average person chooses on a daily basis to eat that burger, drive their car, have a ton of kids, buy that new smartphone, buy that bigger house, and take that international vacation. I live in a first world nation, yet if everyone on Earth had my ecological footprint, everything would be just fine. I made the choice to do that. Humanity is doomed though, because people are some combination of too stupid and too hedonistic to actually create on this front, we would need some authoritarian communist dictatorship to keep peoples' idiotic desires in line.
