There's nothing particularly wrong with them, but they're only really worth having if you already plan on burning a ton of small fuel instead of bigger pieces. There's lots of forest areas where the ground is completely covered in twigs but nothing in between finger thick and too big. or the law says you can't make an "open fire" and these things don't count, or and in those cases these things make the fire easier to build and tend, shelter it from the wind, improve efficiency and hold your pot.
There are also no real upsides compared directly a more modern solution. There's a reason stuff like whisperlites exist, if they didn't solve a problem no one would bother with them. Of course that doesn't mean they're the best in every situation, the thing in OP exists because it too solves a problem. Which one you should use depends on which problems you care most about solving.
