All I know is I have one CPM-M4 knife (A ZT 0770 exclusive variation with DLC coating) and one ZPD-189 knife (Al Mar HD Eagle laminated) and both are a pain in the ass to sharpen, I had to use less pressure and spend more time on my medium stones to prevent my diamond from chipping the apex.
I was talking more like 1095 vs VG-10 sort of comparison. You know knives that are sub $200ish
