>37.9F this morning>frost on the compost pileI still have pumpkins ripening, a little watermelon on the vine, and a crap ton of luffa sponges that NEED to mature/cure.
•Luffa sponges need at least 90 days to ripen.
•It has been 204 days since I planted the luffa sponge seeds indoors.
•It has been 159 days since I planted the luffa sponge plant starts in the raised bed.
•Listed growing season for this area between last and 1st frosts is only 166 days.
•However, it has not been 90 days since they started developing fruit.
Yeah, this is the last time I grow luffa sponge in Zone 5. This is my 3rd try. I'd like to at least get some viable seeds from them. I know I should be able to get sponges from them, but cleaning still-green sponges it a MAJOR pain. I did that last year.
>>1112322The cotyledon usually pushes the seed shell up and out of the ground then drops it when the cotyledon open. You should see a sprout and an empty seed shell next to it. Sometimes, the cotyledon gets stuck in the shell and can't open. If that happened, you'd need to separate the seed shell to free it.
