The whole story is derived from European paganism, from the rings of power to the dwarves, dragons, orcs and elves, with an homage to anglo Saxon and farmer briton Medieval English peasantry and rural folk. Hell, it has shapeshifting bear berserkers, ancient balrogs, horse warrior cults, immortal reincarnating wizards, barrows filled with ghosts, a wandering Odin figure etc, the whole world is called Middle Earth with other realms for godlike pantheons of heroes like the aesir, does any of that sound very christian?
