>>1368291Fucking this. I literally carry 3 knives in my pack. An Old Hickory butcher knife for larger tasks and battoning when I leave my Plumb carpenters hatchet at camp, a Mora Companion for processing smaller wood or whittling to pass the time, and a Mora craftline basic 511 as a food prep knife (pic related, just finished sharpening and oiling it...) And aside from just how useful they are for day to day tasks on the homestead as well as /out/, the basic maintenance of them is very satisfying and makes me feel connected to my ancestors that did everything by hand. I reject this tear open food, everything is disposable just buy a new one, "culture" we live in. There's a reason my axe and hatchet were both made over 50 years ago, because people made stuff back then that you maintained yourself instead of buying a new one every year. Provided my children don't raise them to be little entitled shits, most of my tools and gear will still be usable when my grandchildren are my age.
