Alaska Game wardens are called Wildlife Troopers and are a division of their State Trooper department. You generally do a few years in patrol and transfer, but sometimes you can go directly in if you're a more qualified candidate (degree, game warden experience, etc). I remember the story you're referring to and I seriously doubt that it's real. Helicopters are fucking expensive and usually for emergencies like search and rescue or medical stuff, not just asking if a guy has a fishing license.
