I never did not eat large amounts of fruits and veggies, so I have no 'neutral baseline' to compare it to, to judge it effectiveness against hay fever symptoms. My allergies indeed might be worse without them. What I do know for sure is that it didn't prevent me developing allergies. Most of the produce I consume is homegrown too by the way. I regularly spam pictures of my garden in the related thread here on /out/.
Another trick I'm planning to try is consuming honey from a local beekeeper throughout winter. Since it contains pollen from the local flora, it is said to function the same as immunotherapy. I haven't found respectable scientific literature on the matter, but I see no harm in trying.
