Hey all, last year I planted some watermelons and while I did get a few decently sized melons out of the 6 vines I raised, this year I'd like to do it better.
Since I live in southern Ontario, it stays cold for quite some time. Because of this I had to plant my melon seeds into late April last year. I ended up getting one "good" watermelon, though the rest were still unripe come August. That got me thinking about raising the seedlings indoors first, then moving them to the soil bed once it gets warmer. Here's the idea I have so far.
>Set up a makeshift indoor greenhouse inside garage, I already have some lights although they're not UV, so I'd have to look for some
>Make some /diy/ seedling pots and start the melon seedlings
>Switch on the UV lights every morning, then turn off every evening
>Hopefully get some sprouts
I've never tried anything like this before, so for all I know a garage could be a horrible place to get an early start on these watermelons. I'm guessing it would have to be rather warm inside, are there any better alternatives?
