I'm a complete n00b to hot tent but tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago in (relatively) mild temps with low of 27ºF
The first night I was paranoid about the thin layer of smoke inside the tent. The stove was working properly venting out of the flue and no leaks... I was just nervous. Was up till 6 am worried and tending to it, fiddling with how much venting I needed. So I got a CO alarm. The second night I did better but the stove went dead at about 5 am. This time was using cedar/aspen so I'm not surprised, but the first night the harder wood was too wet to catch very well.
How much ventilation do I really need from windows? I was letting a lot of cold air get in.
Is it okay to leave the stove running all night?
If so how do I keep it hot enough and what sort of fuel do I burn?
I read somewhere to rely on your other gear to sleep warm, which I did end up doing and was fine.
