>>1360064Honestly, youre gonna want the right tool for the right situation, so youll want to eventually buy a few more to fit your various needs ("Am I going somewhere with kodiak bears or somewhere with crackheads?"etc) But to start off, I always recommend a Glock 19. Cheap and readily available ammo (9mm,) simple to use/easy to learn/easy to clean (theres like a handful of parts to it,) affordable (get a used one for like 400 bucks), easily concealable (ahem, if legal to do so in your state,) and its durable and reliable enough to be used by various militaries and LEOs all over the world. Perfect starter handgun for someone new to guns. I highly recommend taking a basic safety course at a local gun range. Theyll teach you the basics of how to manipulate your weapon and practice proper weapons safety procedures. Once you got your gat and know how to use it properly, you can go shooting and practice and get better and learn new, advanced techniques, if interested, and you can always ask /k/ if you have any questions on the subject. Eventually, youll want to move on to more specialized ammunition/calibers for various threats: you wouldnt want to use the same caliber you use to defend against humans against a fucking grizzly or angry moose, etc, but until then, a Glock 19 should be an easy, all around useful gun to carry.
