>>280057elevation sickness is no fucking joke. I was younger and hiked Longs Peak.. made it alright until about 12500 ft.. and then I started seeing shit. We slept in a rock field after hiking the majority of the trail up, and I swear I saw a giant ice cave about 100 yards off, and it was glowing, as if there was a large group of people in there, and for whatever reason I was fixated on the idea of there being a giant table of food in there and its all I could think about for hours. I also "saw" a lynx, and on the way down I constantly saw our vehicle around every corner, to the point I felt like I was going insane.
I also puked my guts out, and while waiting in the keyhole mountain hut to summit, I woke up mid-conversation with people I didn't know, and not have any idea what was going on. Someone was talking to me about my hometown and how his friend went to school there, but I couldn't even remember being active in this conversation.
I know what I did wrong, I was young and stupid. I should've acclimated more and hydrated better. But it was a scary experience and I like to share to make people realize it's real and it will come on strong and fast.
