A few weeks ago I posted an update about bud grafting I had then just carried out on some apples. I went up to the orchard today and had a look and it appears to have been successful in all cases.
I haven't decided whether I'm going to cut off the stem and try and force the newly grafted buds to make a little growth this season, or wait until spring. Until I do that, I wont know for sure, but you can see a tonne of callusing swelling out between the bud and the stock.
My bud wood was MUCH smaller than the rootstock, which is said to be a big disadvantage. If it really has worked as it appears, I can see this technique replacing all other grafting techniques for me, except perhaps rind grafting for truly huge size differences between scion and stock.
