>>287737I have to say, Carinthia has won my heart. The bag is very water resistant, performs well when wet, it is light, comfortable and warm. Zip operates smoothly opening, but the wide baffles catch when closing if you don't pay attention. Lots of room inside, ample foot space allows leg stretching and prevents cramping, helps maintain good circulation in lower legs and feet. Compresses well for travel. Comes in two sizes, normal and long for big lanky streaks like me.
If you have the cash, and don't mind the extra 900 grams in weight, I strongly reccommend going for the Survival 1.
It has the benifits of arm extentions, and can be worn like a 'coat'. I don't know how much winter camping you've done, but having to leave your sleeping bag when you are in the negative digits when you've been sedentary for a while, and will be sedentary again is not very pleasant. Especially after days of being out and things are getting damp or are frozen through.
Like when you need to get up and investigate that noise. Or light your fire. Or deal with wind damage. Or take a piss. Hell, maybe you just want to read a book without doing confined acrobatics to keep your arms from freezing while you turn pages.
I would have liked to get the Survival 1, but my wallet was not fat enough for such a cull. So the Defence 4 will do me until I make that joyous upgrade.
Obviously though if you are in a warm climate and don't plan to go any place cold, one of the lighter bags would do you just fine, I can imagine. They are very high quality, you get what you pay for.
