I have one now and, yes it's a bit pricey but absolutely worth it! It's the most effective way to heat without relying on outside forces.
Heats the whole place, can be rigged to pump hot water for baths and other plumbing. Easiest wood stove I have ever had.
Mine at home does have an electronic regulator that opens and closes the damper as needed. BUT! My summer project is to hook that up to a solar panel to remove that reliance. It uses less electricity than a night light as it is.
