>>1636514I was hunting squirrels with my dad when I was about 10 or so near an abandoned strip mine. While we were out, he decided to go a bit off the trail to check a spot for ginseng, which he often dug for extra money. I was messing around, being a kid and shit, when I got a strong urge to freeze and look down. Under my left foot was a baby copperhead. It kept trying to twist around to bite me but luckily it didn’t have enough room. We were poor and only had one gun between the two of us so I had to keep it pinned until my dad walked back up the hill and shot it.
The lesson I learned that day saved my life ten years later in the ME from getting stung by a scorpion.
