Most of the time I had to rough it out to the nearest hostel where I would dry wet things out indoors- I did wear down boots in my sleeping bag as a moisture buffer when this occurred, it worked pretty well. The boots I had to unthaw while walking, as said before the GoreTex lining broke in both of them (old boots, should have sized up 1/2 also- call it a learning experience), so it was pretty miserable going until they were 'warm'. I replaced them with trail runners, by that time I had done about 180 miles on them, nearly 80 of them in a defective state (and yes, very painful, I've learned my lesson)
