>>549192Well, I got into music at a young age and video production in high school, so when it became college time I went for audio technology and recording just became my life. I wasn't initially interested in field recording, mostly composing music and doing sound design and studio recording. I've worked with lots of amazing people over the years though who have really influenced me and turned me on to the finer delicacies of sound appreciation - mostly in the area of carefully crafted acoustic recordings as opposed to studio-controlled/produced recordings. SO as a lifelong /out/ist it became obvious a few years ago that I should be documenting my environments with sound. I won't go on and on into it all but I think sound is the best single way we can document a place, over pics and videos. I fucking love it.
I kind of specialize in surround sound recording/reproduction, and I was teaching a class in this a few years ago and some students really wanted to go out in the city and record in surround. So we started doing that, and it really got me thinking about it, as we got fantastic results that are usually even better than actually being there.
Also I got my masters degree in acoustic engineering and I now consider myself a fish who lives in an ocean of sound and it is what sustains me. This might not even be my final form...
