>>1845889Id actually look in to salmon/steelhead rods, my favorite general purpose saltwater rod is an 8'6" salmon steelhead rod rated for up to 3 oz with an okuma avenger 4000 reel and #40 power pro and I've thrown it for bluefish, spanish mackerel, spot, king fish (whiting), catfish, speckled trout, spot, and i wouldn't hesitate to throw it to red and nlack drum, sheepshead, snook, jacks, or much of anything under 40 inches. Its realistically a combo i could use to catch a pin fish, re rig, then use that pin fish as bait on the same rod.
Get a second rod in the 8-12 foot range with a 6000 size reel and 65 pound braid and realostically those two rods will get you everythjng; king mackerel, sharks, tarpon, monster snook, big rays, etc.

I like to match it up to the rod, i personally wont use more than 4x on my 2 weight; 3x on my 4 weight, 1x on my 6 weight, and 20lb is the strongest leader ill use on my 8
