Exactly one more week, bros, and it should be the first summer harvest, on Summer.
I'm foregoing the watering this week in order to maximize the sugar saturation before I pick them off right when it's time, which really shouldn't be long now. I'm hoping I can take them off the vine on June 20th exact. Yeah, I know, I know. What a mess I've let the area become, what can I say. Although, I do shed some of the blame because bugs have been so much more active than usual this year, as well as the weather, with literally the majority of this spring season being composed of wind. It was the inevitable end result. And also I figured that if there were more plants, then it would foster a sort of micro-ecosystem to invite more good bugs and/or distract the bad bugs away from my crops, at the sacrifice of some of the potential nutrients down below.
However, all things considered, you'll see that the yield really isn't all that bad at all, considering this is only my second season growing things. I truly have to say that this part exceeded my expectations more than I could have hoped, and I really almost lost hope at the beginning. But my boys soldiered on and have secured their genetic lineage.
Anyways, here are some images. Cultivar is Hale's Best 45. Odd name, but it looks nice. The plant truly is beautiful, quite honestly, barring the bug and fungal scars.
