I then started on a shelter. I was concerned that the river might rise and flood the beach that I was on, so I put stick-markers in the ground at the water line to measure if the water had moved. I thought I would be cool and braid my 100ft of paracord like they do in those ‘survival bracelets.’ Stupid choice, I wasted 30 minutes unraveling that damn thing. I tied one end of my paracord to a bush. The line then ran to a stake in the ground, and back up to the bush. I batonned some notches into a stick (A skill I learned from a sc/out/ thanks!) to spread the paracord to make a space for my head and shoulders. I then tied a tarp to the paracord, then placed rocks on the tarp for a wall and floor. I duct taped the space blanket to the tarp to make a second wall/flap. Unfortunately I placed the shiny side facing outward. I would come to regret this mistake later. I need some guidance regarding shelter building.
