I carry a knife in urban and /out/ environments. I have pic related (it was a gift, don't judge the brand image) and I have two keychain multi tools.

Urban:
Hygene (filing nails, clipping)
Opening packages
Cutting cord
Self defense ( I ride my bike to work through the industrial sector at dark thirty every morning. There are always vagrants and passed out bums, I feel much better having a not-tiny knife available.)

Sawing wood to make sawdust for kindling
Gutting fish/processing game
In conjunction with flint
Although I always stomp my branches to make firewood, eventually my bad knees will catch up with me and I will resort to battoning. On my last trip I wished I had a full tang knife because some sticks were too stout to stomp to bits.
