I think curved knobbed handles are from an age when american people chopped down enormous softwoods, they did a lot of chopping and they made big chips, but I'm from Serbia and we cut hardwoods here like oak beech hornbeam etc and these are the axes that have been perfected for it
I watched youtube videos about American axes that are full of shit, like the poll counterweight. Pic related are Italian falling axes believe it or not, they are narrow and long to chop out the notch to fall a tree, the profile is thicker to give it more mass and the poll on the back is a counterweight to maintain balance. Limbing axe on the other hand have a smaller poll and a wider bit, and a very thin profile to slice through branches with ease
The axe I posted earlier is the only one I really need along with a splitting hammer, most of the work is done by the chainsaw anyway
