My two cents:
1) go to nearest train or bus station and take a look at timetables, where buses/trains go and plan from there.
2) if you have long distance train stop near by, take a look at international trains (probably) to Germany. I live in Slovakia, so I dont need to cross the border that much, but I spend few times a month in trains across the country (like 4 hours and 7€ one way), you can across the border - rule of thumb - total time of traveling shouldn't be much longer than expected hiking time.
