A tip for any planned hammering of nails: use screws and a hand held driver. Pre-tap holes with a small bit and hand drill, see pic. 3 reasons.
1. Screws are stronger, hold better, and are easier to take out.
2. They don't make noise putting them in by hand. Constant hammering will draw attention.
3. Your forearms, wrists and hands will gain hulk-like strength if you persevere with the initial difficulty.
