>Why? I secretly have 12 MRE entrees and six MH dinners for if the wife, daughter and I need to hike it out to the lake for some unlikely reason, but for actually probable natural disaster type shit I just keep a bunch of regular ol' canned food and a half-gallon of denatured alcohol to cook with and a box of candles.
I use them all the time, and its a bit slower, but technically rotating all the same. I would say my Mountain house supplies would last 3kcals a day for 3 months for one person. I have probably 5+ months in my rotating pantry/freezer.
If I needed to stretch it, it can last a lot longer. My homesteading goal is a years rotation at any given time.
As for why mountain house specifically, I was in a situation where I could get a lot of the meals for free, so I did as much as I could. It took a bit of work on my part to make it happen.
Also I have moved a lot since I started this supply. Probably 5 times, one of them being from one end of the USA to the other. Packing a handful of totes is easy. I had to ditch the canning collection.
