Well in my opinion fishing should be purely for sport and that the enjoyment primarily comes from outsmarting the fish and secondarily from playing the fish. I like to think of how I can give the fish as much of an advantage as possible. For example, I only use a fly rod, it requires a lot of skill on the user's part and has a high margin for error. Even with a decade of experience I would still consider myself a beginner. However, it makes the practice of fishing much more sporting and satisfying. I have yet to find a legitimate and ethical reason to keep fish, although I have no grudge against people who do, especially invasives. I do think that daily limits should be changed to weekly or even monthly, but that's a pipe dream. To put it simply, recreational fisheries already face a lot of pressure and you are fooling yourself if you think culling is an effective long term solution.
