I have a Foretrex 401, and I use it only for tracking my hike/run. The screen is small and doesn't display a real map, so for navigation, you need to know how to transpose those information into a real map. It's much harder than using a normal GPS.
Battery life is good, the thing is solid, I find the GPS fix to take long, but I'm the only one.
