Cultivated papaya are mostly hermaphrodites, and have mostly hermaphrodite offspring, but supposedly, this varies by variety. Assuming a roughly 50/50 spread, about half of my plants are male and the rest are female, or they are mostly hermaphrodites. No way of knowing until they reach sexual maturity. I hope this one with red pigmentation is female, as it may have an oddly colored fruit.
