>>1183100Here's my DIY thrown together mess kit that cost me nothing which also doubles up as a storage container:
For the outside tin I've used a stainless steel coffee canister that measures up at about 110mmx 130mm, which is decently watertight and holds approximately just over a litre whilst also acting as a saucepan and pressure cooker for boiling water.
the top lid has been doubled up to serve as a small frying pan, by wrapping a bit of wire into a handle that won't burn your hand, can be folded for ease of acess and can be used as a hook for hanging.
Inside the center of the tin is a stainless steel mug which holds about 250ml, yet this takes up a fair bit of room to the point it could be taken out for more food storage if it was needed.
Inside there is also plenty of room for:
>A tin of sardines>Sachets of instant soup>My medical kit>Tent pegs >A tube of salt>A tub of Vaseline>A plastic kiwi fruit spoon>A fero rod aswell as a lighter>A sheet of gauzeOverall when fully stocked I'd say this weighs in at about 2.5/3 pounds, which is bloody amazing considering the amount of kit squeezed into such a small container which happens to fit nice and snug at the bottom of my back pack with minimal notice, due to it's cylinderical shape with no edges to dig into my back or side whilst I'm walking.
