remove the head(Was never properly attached to begin with. Someone just pushed it into the handle and put a screw into the eye to expand the wood)
soak it in vinegar for a day
use a wire brush to take all the rust off
metal file the back of the head to take off the mushrooming from it being pounded
Re-profile the edge since the actual cutting bit was move so far back from so much use
properly attach it to the handle(including sawing a spot to put a wedge in)
Put linseed oil over it
I'm thinking it would have been smarter to just throw the thing out and buy a new one, since all that work took atleast 2 hours of actual labor.
On the plus side, atleast now i know i can refurbish an axe.
