>>1855778Once again it depends on weather and terrain. If you are sheep hunting on the brooks range, you will need some serious ankle support- some people even wear hard plastic mountaineering boots. If you are hunting in a wetland- waders or hip boots. Winter hunt in a normal forest- leather boots with thinsulate. Spring/fall hunt or warm weather area- good hiking boots are fine.
Tons of people just run around in muck boots because they are cheap and common on farms. I have a few pair of boots for my various typical trips, see pic related. Goretex lined boots are great, but they WILL leak eventually. Muck boots will not. You will sweat more though, so no matter the boot wear good socks and understand that your feet will get wet.
For hiking boots:
I hated my merrel moabs, the sole delaminated at only like 300 miles. I found that vasque trail fit me best in my price range, but there are tons of good brands. Strongly recommend you go to a proper outdoors store (not dicks) and try as many brands as you can.
For leather boots I love my current set of irish setters, but I have had whites boots, wolverine, and a few others brands that were excellent too. Try as many as you can and look at reviews.
As for waders- if anyone has some suggestions I’m all ears. I have only ever had cheapies from cabelas but I have a serious wetland hunt in December and I want to upgrade.
