I was thinking about 12v LEDs too. I snagged these square work lights from Northern Tool when they were $10 or $15 for a pair, used my incredible carpentry skills to build this little box, and now the lights tilt and swivel and they run off a dying lead acid battery from my scooter or a 12V/3A power supply from an old cable box if I want to plug it in.
Originally I was just fucking around and didn’t expect to get any real use out of it, but the thing is great for working under the car because I can set it on the ground and aim the lights up at whatever area I’m messing with.
But those lights would be useless for growing I’m sure.
