Ok same milfag here and I see the term "milspec" being thrown around a lot and I don't think most people realize what it actually means. This is going to be multipart. Milspec means that it's the cheapest shit the government can buy that the soldiers can use without dying.
The boots that I was issued at basic in St Jean were extremely bad in retrospect now that I have bought better boots. People's boots were falling apart during garrison training where the most you do is march around the base to different buildings for class. When it was field time, more boots were blown out. Mind you, this is basic training field time and basic training is designed so your clerks, cooks, musicians can pass.
