Your boots will probably fuck you, but go buy some Reynolds oven bags, they're tough plastic that you can slide over your socks (or some people put it on their foot under the sock). It's a cludge for sure because your feet will sweat, but will help keep your feet warm if you step in a puddle of ice water.
